My girlfriend’s Toyota Crown is just months 3 old with less than 1,000 miles, and recently it failed to brake, sending her through a red light and into a building wall at low speed. She’s 100% sure she was on the brake, and the car never accelerated, but shouldn’t the automatic braking system have kicked in? It is super scary, has anyone else experienced this? What could have caused it?

That’s terrifying. If the brakes truly failed and the automatic emergency braking (AEB) didn’t activate, that’s a serious issue that Toyota needs to investigate immediately. A new car with under 1,000 miles should not be having brake failure. I’d push the dealer to scan for error codes and check if the AEB system was engaged or disabled. Also, Toyota’s brake-by-wire system has been reliable, but electronic issues can happen, so I’d demand a full diagnostic.

Yeah, we’re pushing for a full diagnostic. AEB should’ve engaged, and we need answers. Toyota needs to take this seriously and investigates thoroughly.
