Confused about P mode

I was sitting in my car, and the engine turned on. Then, the car jerked forward and the engine sounded weird, like it was stuck in gear. I put it in neutral and park, but the engine was still running. Is this normal? I'm kinda freaked out.

I think you pressed the accelerator pedal by accident. Use the parking brake, and shift position to P next time (this is written even in the manual).
