A colleague has been eyeing the Crown Wagon as his ideal daily driver. He loves the 1999+ generation for its more modern features compared to the older models and is wondering if there’s any way to bypass the 25-year import rule. While he could wait it out, he’s not keen on that option. It's frustrating for him, especially since Japanese wagons have been scarce since the TSX wagon was discontinued in 2012.

My friend bought a Delica from a website that imports goods. A month later, he sold it back to the importer for $2000 less than the purchase price after he spent a lot of time trying to get it registered in California because of smog and other problems. I would advise you to research your state inspections, smog, and other related topics. Perhaps some states offer waivers for classic cars?

Thanks for sharing that! I’ll remind him to check state-specific regulations, especially smog requirements and inspections. The potential for waivers on classic cars is a good angle. Importing seems tricky, but hopefully, he’ll avoid issues like your friend faced.
